Argentina vs Mexico: Possible First Eleven of Diego Maradona

Argentina is facing Mexico tonight in their round of 16 match and both sides are expecting a progress to the next round. Though Argentina is favorite, no body can rule out Mexico’s chances. It is believed that Maradona would bring back his regular players, who were rested for the Greece match, in the starting eleven against Mexico.

Sergio Romero would start at goal with Demichelis and Samuel playing at the center of the defense. Gabriel Heinze, Jonás Gutiérrez will continue as the full backs. Except Demichelis, the other three did not feature against Greece and they would now come back fresh to face Mexico.

Captain Javier Mascherano would also come back to play the defensive role in the midfield with Ángel di María and Verón occupying the two wings. Actually, Veron and di María are more of central midfielder, rather than winger.

In the three-men attacking line up, Tevez and Higuaín would play up front with Lionel Messi playing just behind them and operate through the middle. Messi’s role would be a blend of the roles of a playmaker and a center forward. It is understood that Messi would concentrate more on setting up goals for Tevez and Higuaín than scoring himself.

Argentina First Eleven (Probable)

Sergio Romero, Martín Demichelis, Walter Samuel, Gabriel Heinze, Jonás Gutiérrez, Javier Mascherano, Ángel di María, Juan Sebastián Verón, Lionel Messi, Carlos Tévez, Gonzalo Higuaín

Veron has been pretty much impressive since his unexpected recall to the Argentina national side and he has impressed Maradona with his performance to clinch a place in the World Cup squad. In the World Cup so far, his presence and movement have eased the pressure on Messi.
