Africa’s Super Eagles fame Nigeria received a huge blow just before the tournament as they lost their in-form midfielder Mikel John Obi who was ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury. However, Argentina can not afford to take the Nigerians lightly as they still have some highly talented players like Joseph Yobo, Dickson Etuhu, Obafemi Martins and John Utaka.

Nigeria might enjoy the local support as South African fans would love to support their African neighbor. However, it may not be of any use if the Nigerians fail to restrict the world class Argentine players like Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuaín and Carlos Tévez. All of them together form a fearsome attacking line up with Messi being at the core of their attack. Another in-form striker Diego Milito could be rested for their opening fixture as the Inter Milan star recently received a knock to his ankle in training.

Despite a struggling run in the World Cup qualifiers, Argentina’s recent scoring form has been pretty much impressive. They scored 9 goals in their two recent friendly matches against Haiti and Canada. Nigeria also has quality attacking men in Obafemi Martins and Utaka.
