France defense looked pretty ordinary in their recent warm up matches with Gallas and Abidal were struggling for form. France was suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat at the hands of China last week. So, Captain Patrice Evra would have to pull the string in defense for France. On the other hand, Uruguay’s Forlán and Suárez have been in excellent form recently for their clubs as well as for their country.

So, the fixture seems to be a clash between Uruguay attack and France defense. However, one can not rule out France’s attacking line up. They have some experienced top class players in Nicolas Anelka and Franck Ribéry who could orchestrate lethal attack for the opposition. However, star striker Thierry Henry would not start against Uruguay.

From Group A, France is the ultimate favorite to reach the next round, but given the threats posed by Uruguay and Mexico, French players can not just get relaxed. In fact, they have the experience of getting out of the first round in 2002.

France XI
