The Hindu College is considered as one of the premier academic institutions in the country. The alumni of the college makes of people who had great contributions in various aspects of the country government, business and other sectors.

The Hindu College was founded in 1899 by Late Shri Krishan Dassji Gurwale. During the days of struggle against the British, prominent citizens including Shri Gurwale decided to start a college that would provide education to the people irrespective of the social status.

The college started its activities from a small building in Kinari Bazar, Chandni Chowk. It was affiliated to the Punjab University. In 1902, the college faced a major crisis due to its inadequate infrastructure.
