IERT is an engineering institution of Allahabad. It is affiliated to U.P Technical University, Lucknow, U.P., India. Students are admitted based on their performance in the State Entrance Exam (SEE). The examination is conducted by U.P. Technical University, Lucknow, U.P., India.

In 1955, Civil Engineering School was opened by a society named, “Institute of Engineering and Technology.” The students who were admitted were awarded two years’ Diploma in Civil Engineering Course by the Boar of Engineering College.

In 1962, U.P. Government took over the institute by constituting a registered society named “Allahabad Engineering Polytechnic, Allahabad.” The society constituted a Board of Management/ Managing Committee which consists of eleven members to manage functions of the Polytechnic.

The Institute was later awarded the status of Grant in Aid by the State Government. As a result, the rules and by-laws of the society were modified and the Director of Technical Education, U.P. became ex-officio Secretary of Management Committee.
