Manchester United Linked with Raul Meireles

Manchester United is currently eyeing on Portugal international Raul Meireles who is now on international duty with Portugal in World Cup 2010. The midfielder has so far impressed with Portugal in the tournament.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly interested to add new face to his midfield line up ahead of the next season. He is, in fact, is looking for the possible replacements for Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Raul Meireles fits the bill for Manchester United very well. He is a defensive midfielder with accurate passing and shooting ability. The 27-year-old Porto midfielder is valuated at around £12 million.

Manchester United is also reportedly linked with two wingers: Mexican international Pablo Barrera and Spain’s Jesus Navas. Sevilla midfielder Navas is valued in the region of £16 million.

Raul Meireles would be fourth player to join Manchester United after Nani, Cristiano Ronaldo and Anderson from Portugal.

Manchester United is believed to be in a financial crisis and they are now as active in the summer transfer window as they were last year. However, Ferguson is trying to bring in one or two midfielders who can gradually replace Giggs and Scholes. Scholes has already indicated that the next season would most probably be his last season as a player.
