Michael Jackson is one of the most successful African-American entertainers of his time. Michael Jackson was the eighth of ten children to an African lower-class family. He spent his childhood in Gary, Indiana, an Industrial suburb of Chicago. His mother’s name is Katherine Esther Scruse and his father, Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson, was a steel mill worker.

Jackson had three sisters: Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet, and five brothers: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy. A sixth brother, Brandon, died shortly after birth.

Jackson started his singing career at the age of eight in 1964 with Jackson-5, a band formed by his brothers.
