Raavan World Premiere to be Held on 16 June in London

Abhishek Bachchan has recently revealed in a Twitter post that his upcoming Bollywood flick Raavan will be premiered on 16 June in London. The movie featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Tamil movie star Vikram Kennedy in the lead roles is slated for release on 18 June 2010.

Directed and produced by Mani Ratnam, who earlier directed Abhishek and Aishwarya in the 2007 hit Guru, the movie is loosely based on the epic Ramayana. Govinda, Ravi Kishan and Priyamani will be seen in other important roles in the movie.

Abhishek plays the role of Beera who can be compared with Ramayana’s demon character Raavan, while Aishwarya plays Ragini, a character similar to Seeta of Ramayana. Vikram will be seen in the role of a police officer Dev who can be compared with Shree Ram of Ramayana.

The Tamil version of the movie is titled Raavanan which has also been shot simultaneously and is going to hit the screen on 18 June too. The Tamil version is also directed and produced by Mani Ratnam. However, the cast is slightly different from the Bollywood version.

In Raavanan, Vikram plays the role of Veeraiya (Raavanan), while Aishwarya will be seen playing the same character as she does in the Bollywood version. Prithviraj will be seen in the role of the police officer Dev (Sree Rama).

Music of both the movies was done by Academy Award winning composer A.R. Rahman.

After the success of 2007 hit Guru, Bollywood fans are expecting another hit from the Abhishek-Aishwarya pair. So, Raavan has lots of expectations to meet and it would be interesting to see if Abhishek and Aishwarya can emulate Guru’s success with Raavan.
