The last time India played a test series in Sri Lanka was in 2008 when the hosts defeated the visiting side 2-1 with Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis dominating over the Indian batsmen. However, India took a sweet revenge when they defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in a 3-match test series last year with Sreesanth, Harbhajan and Zaheer Khan performing at their best.
Out of their total 32 meetings in test cricket, India won 13 times, while Sri Lanka emerged winner on 5 occasions. 14 other matches ended up in draw. It seems India has dominated over their neighbors most of the time.
However, it will not be the same if someone counts the test matches held since the turn of the new century. Since 2001, India and Sri Lanka faced each other 12 times in test cricket with India winning 6 and Sri Lanka 4 matches. Only 2 were drawn. So, it proves that the difference between the two sides have been reduced drastically.
Here is the schedule of the upcoming test series:
Date | Competing Teams | Time | Venue |
18-22 July Sun-Thu | (1st Test) | GMT 04:30; Local 10:00 | |
26-30 July Sun-Thu | (2nd Test) | GMT 04:30; Local 10:00 | Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, |
3-7 August Sun-Thu | (3rd Test) | GMT 04:30; Local 10:00 | P Sara Oval, |
Sri Lankan condition may not be a problem for Indian team as they are used to playing in the same condition in their country. However, spinners may get assistance from the wickets.
all tests are starting on 18-22July :)
