Who will Make Another Step towards Round of 16: Argentina vs South Korea Match

Both Argentina and South Korea got off to a winning start in the FIFA World Cup 2010 which is currently going on in South Korea. Argentina defeated Nigeria 1-0, while South Korea clinched a 2-0 win over Greece in their opening fixtures.

Now, Argentina and South Korea are going to face each other on 17 June in their second match. Going into the match, both teams know that a win would take them on the verge of getting into the next round from group B. So, Argentina and South Korea would like to make another step towards the Round of 16 by winning this encounter.

Argentina played well against Nigeria, even though they should have won by a bigger margin. Most importantly, Lionel Messi got his rhythm back with national team, a rare case for the Barcelona star. Earlier, Messi was fully criticized for his failure to translate his excellent club form into international stage. In the opening match, Messi had 6 shots at goal and came very close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

So, there is every reason Argentina fans can be happy at the moment. However, despite a good attacking show against Nigeria, who was missing their best midfielder Mikel John Obi, Argentina defense looked shaky and was exposed on a number of times during the match. Argentine midfield also lacked creativity.

South Korea has quality attacking options who could capitalize on the shaky Argentine defense. Moreover, South Korea’s most capped striker Lee Dong-Gook would be available for the Argentina match after recovering from injury.
