World Cup Football 2010: List of Live Telecast TV Channels

Football fans are now excited with World Cup Football 2010 coming nearer. This year the tournament will take place in South Africa. There will be 64 matches in the tournament running from 11 June to 11 July.

Though many fans would travel to South Africa to watch the matches, television channels would be main source of enjoying the live action of the matches for the football fans around the world.

FIFA, the governing body of world football, has distributed the TV rights of the tournament among the various television channels across the world. Here is the list of TV channels that are going to cover the tournament live for their viewers.

ESPN Star

(Countries to Cover: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives)

ESPN Star TV channel, a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and New Corporation, is going to telecast the World Cup matches live for the football fans of Indian sub-continent and other neighboring countries. The channel has a group of football experts who would be sharing their expertise with the fans during the tournament. It is a pay channel.

Doordarshan for Indian Viewers

It is the only free-to-air TV cannel in India. Indian football fans can also watch the matches on Doordarshan television channel.

Al Jazeera Sports for the Middle East and North African Viewers

(Countries to cover: Algeria, Bahrain, Yemen, U.A.E., Tunisia, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, Mauritania, Libya, Palestinian Authority, Oman, Djibouti, Comoros, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq )

Al Jazeera Sports is an Arabic language sports channel which covers many sporting events for its viewers. The channel, which was launched by Al Jazeera network in 2003, is very popular in the Middle East.

ESPN and ABC TV Channels for the English Speaking viewers of United States and Other Countries

(Countries to cover: USA, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands)

ESPN, a popular pay channel in North America, would bring the live action of 54 matches for the soccer fans of US and other neighboring territories, while ABC, a terrestrial TV channel, would telecast 10 matches live for its viewers. ESPN 3D would also telecast 25 matches live.

Spanish speaking people of United States can watch the matches live on Univision and Telefutura (both of them are terrestrial channels). A cable TV channel Galavisión would show he highlights of the matches for the Spanish speaking people. ESPN would also show 40 matches live with commentary in Portuguese for the Portuguese speaking people.

CBC, Bold, SRC and Telelatino TV Channels for Viewers in Canada

Football fans in Canada can watch the World Cup matches live on CBC (a terrestrial channel) and Bold TV (a pay channel). French speaking people can enjoy the matches live on free-to-air channel SRC, while Spanish speaking people can watch the matches live on pay channel Telelatino.

BBC and ITV (ITV1, STV, UTV) for the United Kingdom viewers

(Countries to cover: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

Football fans in Britain would be able to watch the World Cup matches live on BBC.

ITV would also telecast the matches live in United Kingdom through its various channels. ITV1 would bring the live action of the matches for the football fans of England, Wales, and Southern Scotland, while STV would cover the tournament live in Central and Northern Scotland. UTV would bring the live action of the matches for the Northern Ireland people.

RTE (Radio and Television of Ireland) for the Fans of Ireland

People of Ireland can watch the World Cup matches live on RTE TV channels and get the live commentary on RTE radio.

TV Channels to Cover World Cup in Argentina

Two terrestrial channels, Canal 7 and Telefe, are going to broadcast the World Cup match live in Argentina. TyC Sports, a pay channel, would also bring the live action of the matches for the Argentine football fans.

TV Channels to Cover World Cup in Brazil

Rede Globo and Rede Bandeirantes, two free-to-air channels, will show the World Cup matches live for the football fans in Brazil. There are three pay channels, SporTV, BandSports, ESPN Brasil, who are also going to cover the tournament for the viewers in Brazil. Globo 3D would also telecast 8 matches live.

SBS for the Football Fans in Australia

Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) would cover the tournament for the football fans in Australia. SBS has both TV and Radio channels. So, those who would be able to stick to their TV channels can enjoy the live commentary on SBS radio.

CCTV for Viewers in China

Chine Central Television (CCTV) would telecast the World Cup matches live for the football fans of China. There are many football fans in the country and China has become a big market for English Premier League football in the recent years.

TF1, France Télévisions and Canal+ for the Viewers in France

Football fans in France can watch the matches live on two free-to-air television channels: TF1 and France Télévisions. A satellite channel, Canal+, would also bring the live action of the matches for the people in France.

ARD, ZDF, RTL and Sky Deutschland in Germany

People in Germany can enjoy the World Cup on a number of TV channels. Pay channel Sky Deutschland would telecast all the mach live, while three terrestrial channels: ARD, ZDF and RTL- are going to cover the tournament. ARD would telecast 28 matches, ZDF 27 matches and RTL 9 matches.

SuperSport for the Sub-Saharan African Countries

(Countries to cover: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Ivory Coast, Congo, DR Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Lesotho, Kenya, Madagascar, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Zambia, Togo, Zimbabwe, Uganda)

South African based sports channel SuperSport is going to telecast the World Cup matches live on several Sub-Saharan African countries.

  6. I have problems to see the World cup games on Thai TV free Channels,3 and 7. Somebody said its cancelled because of betting,,,,anyone has an answer

    A fool can understand,it is to promote Sun Direct DTH.
