Arsenal Signed Laurent Koscielny for £10 Million

Laurent Koscielny has finally joined Arsenal from French club Lorient for a reported £10 million transfer fee. Over the last one week, reports out in the media were indicating that Arsenal would complete the Koscielny deal very soon.

Laurent Koscielny has become the second signing for Arsenal this summer after the arrival of former Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh on free. Koscielny is rated very highly in France for his excellent performance for Lorient last season.

The 24-year-old joined Lorient last summer and impressed in his debut season winning 35 league appearances. Besides ensuring flawless defending, he also has the knack of contributing in attack, and given his 6 feet 1 inch height, he has aerial advantage too. A physically strong and skilled defender, Koscielny had all the reasons to attract Wenger’s attention.

With Laurent Koscielny joining, Arsene Wenger now has two quality center backs in Thomas Vermaelen and Koscielny. Sol Campbell is now a free agent and he has not decided on his club future yet, while William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre are most likely to leave the North London club.

Reports out in the media also suggest that Arsene Wenger would bring in another central defender this summer because there is no quality back up for Koscielny and Vermaelen. In fact, Wenger is reportedly eyeing on £10 million rated Stuttgart central defender Serdar Tasci.
