Newly appointed Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is now eyeing on FC Twente striker Bryan Ruiz who has been in hot-shot form recently. The Costa Rica international scored 24 goals last season, and thus, helping Twente to win the Dutch league. Hodgson is reportedly planning a £12.5 million bid for the 24-year-old.
Liverpool now sees him as a replacement for their Spanish striker Fernando Torres who has already indicated that he is considering a move away from the Merseyside club this summer. Chelsea has reportedly made a £40 million bid for Torres. Naturally, manager Hodgson is now looking for his replacement.
Amid the financial crisis, Liverpool is now struggling to keep hold on their star players like Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres. Gerrard has been a target of Real Madrid, while Mascherano has been linked with Barcelona. City and Barcelona earlier revealed their interests for Torres.
Overall, it seems that Liverpool would have to deal with the loss of a number of key players. However, the good thing is that these losses would bring some lucrative amounts for the cash-trapped club which is under huge debt.
Given the recent form of both Torres and Bryan Ruiz, it seems that Ruiz would even be a better option for the All Reds. Ruiz scored 24 goals in 34 league appearances for Twente since joining the club in 2009 from Gent. The most important thing is that he would not cost Liverpool a fortune, while Torres’s transfer means some quick cash in for the club and getting rid of his high payroll.
The excess money achieved through Torres deal could help Hodgson bring in couple of quality midfielders who could replace Gerrard and Mascherano.
Torres has not said he is considering a move away.
