Can Pakistan Continue the Dominance in the Test Series against Australia?

Following the 2-0 victory over Australia in the recently concluded Twenty20 series, Pakistan is now all set to transform their Twenty20 success into the upcoming test series beginning from 13 July 2010 at Lord’s.

Though Pakistan has the host status in the series, the series is going to be held in England as a neutral venue. Pakistan did not play many test matches over the last couple of years as a number of teams refused to visit Pakistan due to security concern.

Pakistan’s record against Australia is not impressive at all. They did not win any test match against the Aussies since December 1995. The last time Pakistan won a test series against Australia was in 1994 in Pakistan.

Earlier this year, Australia whitewashed Pakistan in a 3-match test series in Australia. However, this time Pakistan would like to show something different. This is going to be the first time Afridi is going to lead Pakistan in test cricket. With this series, he would return to the longer version of cricket, and it is a big opportunity for the hard-hitter batsman to cement his place in test team.

Pakistan went into the twenty20 series being on 12-match losing streak against Australia, but the Asian side showed some excellent performances and clinched two confidence booster wins. However, Afridi and his teammates must be aware of the fact that test cricket is a different ball game and beating Australia in the test series would not be that easy.
