Injury has become a big problem for India’s pace department. Two front-line pacers Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth are missing the test series due to shoulder and knee injuries respectively. Abhimanyu Mithun and Munaf Patel, the replacements for the injured duo, are most likely to feature in the practice match as they will be batting for a place to partner with Ishant Sharma in the first test.

Off spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is suffering from fever, would be rested for the tour match, while two other spinners Amit Mishra and Pragyan Ojha would be playing to impress and clinch the second spinner’s spot. Murali Vijay, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina are now battling for a place in the first eleven and all three would like to strengthen their claim through their tour match performance.

Sri Lanka would most probably play three spinners Ajantha Mendis, Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv. With Muttiah Muralitharan retiring after the end of the first test, it is a big opportunity for Mendis to retain his place back in the test squad.

Two pacers Dilhara Fernando and Chanaka Welegedara would form the pace attack. Both the wicketkeepers Chanaka Welegedara and Prasanna Jayawardene could get a chance in the match. If selected, it would also be a very good opportunity for middle order batsman Thilina Kandamby.
