Inter Milan Wants Glen Johnson of Liverpool to Replace Maicon

Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is now hoping to sign his former student Glen Johnson from Liverpool in order to strengthen his Inter Milan squad. In fact, Johnson would replace Maicon if the latter finally moves to Real Madrid to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho.

Both Johnson and Maicon play in the right back and are pretty much similar in style. Both of them have attacking intent and could be effective wing back for any team.

Benitez brought Johnson at Liverpool from Portsmouth last summer and the 25-year-old has put on some impressive performances in his debut season at Liverpool, even though the club failed to clinch a place in the Champions League.

It seems Inter Milan would come to the negotiation table with Real Madrid upon Maicon’s persistent urge to join the Spanish giants. Real Madrid put £20 million on offer for the 28-year-old which is yet to match Inter Milan’s £30 million valuation of the player.

However, reports available in the media suggest that Liverpool officials are not interested to deal with their former manager because of their strained relationship.

So, if Glen Johnson is now allowed to move to Liverpool, Benitez would turn his sight on Tottenham Hotspur full back Gareth Bale who has attracted attention of some clubs with his excellent recent form. The 20-year-old defender joined the North London club in 2007, and since then represented the Spurs in 47 league matches.

However, the problem is that Bale is a specialist left back who can also play as a left winger due to his ability to provide precise crosses and passes in the box. So, he can not be a perfect replacement for Maicon, but still Benitez would have a high quality option in Gareth Bale for the left back position.
