Kalyani University was established on November 1, 1960. It has a three-star accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Prof (Dr.) Alok K Banerjee is the Vice Chancellor of this University.

The university is located 50 km from Kolkata. Its campus spreads over 400 acres of land surrounded by rural areas. This location makes it a suitable place for the ‘Cafeteria Approach’ to higher education.

The university is of affiliating type and it has 37 affiliated colleges located in Nadia, Murshidabad and North 24 Parganas. In addition, engineering colleges were affiliated to this University for the last three years.

Currently, the university has 217 teachers assisting 2,000 post graduate and PhD students. The university has following faculties- Science, Arts and Commerce, Education, Engineering Tech and Management, Law, and Music and Fine arts. It has 25 departments.

Kolkata was the former capital of India. It served as the capital of India during the British period until 1912. Currently, it is the capital of West Bengal. It is the cultural and commercial capital of Eastern India. The city of Kolkata is located on the eastern of Bank of Hooghly River.
