Khatta Meetha hero Akshay Kumar criticized by Rajeev Masand and saved by Amitabh Bachchan

Akshay Kumar and Trisha Krishnan starrer political satire, Khatta Meetha, will release in theatres this week. In the movie, Akshay Kumar played the role of a common man inspired from the famous comic character of “Common Man” created by Times of India cartoonist, R. K. Laxman.

In order to prepare for his character, Akshay Kumar visited the cartoonist who was under treatment at a Mumbai hospital. After suffering three strokes Mr. Laxamn could barely move his hands.

Next day, when the picture of smiling Akshay Kumar beside the ailing cartoonist came out, many people did not like it and it had been labeled as a cheap marketing gimmick. Popular Bollywood movie critic, Rajeev Masand, called Akshay Kumar a “jackass” for being insensitive. In his Twitter page, Rajeev Masand wrote, “Need innovative ideas to promote films in competitive times. But Akshay Kumar grinning like a jackass at R.K. Laxman’s hospital bed is a new low,”

This did not go down well with Akshay Kumar. He Tweeted, “…anyone who sees my smile by his bedside in any other way other than love has a cold judgemental heart and I can only pity them,”

Akshay Kumar also said that it was the family of R K Laxman who actually permitted him to meet the cartoonist for they thought that it would be good for him if he gets to meet the man who is bringing his famous comic character of “Common man” to life.

In this situation, Amitabh Bachchan came out as the knight in shining armor. Defending Aksay Kumar, he Tweeted, “Rajeev…your fraternity will never pull you up for calling Akshay a ‘jackass’. Ever thought if the reverse were to be done…would your fraternity have spared Akshay if he were to address you as one? Never expected this language from you,”

Akshay Kumar was very happy with Amitabh Bachhan and expressed his gratitude.

Actually, Akshay said Laxman's family invited him. They said they also invited other celebrities, but no one visited Laxman besides Akshay...
