Lionel Messi is not a Poster Boy or Flop Star

The world cup has ended but the attack on Lionel Messi has not ended yet. Many experts are putting him in the same category of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo as posters boys and flop stars of South Africa 2010. This is simply ridiculous because Messi was undoubtedly the best player of Argentina team this time and he tried his best.
It is wrong and unfair to put him in the same category with Rooney and Ronaldo because Rooney was surely a flop. Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has come forward to support him and stated that Rooney failed because he was under too much pressure from the huge expectations of the people and the media.
Ronaldo on the other looked totally out of touch in the entire tournament. The same simply cannot be said about Messi. He tried his best in every match. Yes, he was unlucky to some extent not to get any goal. However, he assisted in most of the goals of his team.
Although Argentina suffered early exit in the quarterfinals, Messi still could make in to the short list of top ten players for the Golden Ball nomination. It shows that the FIFA experts did not fail to recognize his superb performance. Rooney and Ronaldo were not in that short list.
Lionel Messi should not take some rest and prepare for the upcoming La Liga football season. He will have his opportunity to show in Copa America 2011 that he is neither a poster boy nor a flop star but a real superstar of our time.

  1. offcourse messi is the best of our time & any one who doubts that is totally an idiot , he isn't argentina 11 players he did his best, was playing as a midfield attaker which isn't his position he didn't have any support from other argentinian players as well..the man shot 32 shots 24 of them on goal an 3 of them in the woodwork imagine if messi was in spanish team or even any other teamwork playing team with a good coach he'd have been by far the best.

  3. Messi is one of the best technical players at any time. Probably the best in the world.

He did well in the world cup. No doubt. No goal does not mean he is just a poster boy. With Argentina he had to play a game different to Barcelone. He was alone, simply not supported or facilitated by the team.

  4. Messi was not supported by his team, what with being forced to play midfield...what a disgrace on the part of his coach. He is still the best player in the game...and we will all see why as soon as la Liga starts. You cannot choose the best player by a tournament that lasts only one month, and where you have the chance to play at most 7 games. Come on!!

  5. if winning world cup is everything then Johan Cryuff, George Best, Di Stefano, Batistuta, Zico aint a legend

  6. i totally agree with the previous post. Winning a world cup must not be equated with natural brilliance...messi came very very close...in fact it was his brilliance which took argentina to the quarters..he created spaces for the other strikers to take advantage of....without him difficult to say whether they would have gone beyond the first round...he provided enough glimpses of what he capable of doing...pray that he is fully fit the next time around and has a team with better defense and midfield so that he can do what he enjoys most...scoring goals

  7. Messi is undoubtedly the best player of his time. Its simply foolish to compare him with Ronaldos or Rooneys
