Liverpool Eyeing on Maynor Figueroa and Joe Cole

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has made no secret of his desire to sign Wigan Athletic’s Honduras international Maynor Figueroa and free agent Joe Cole. Both the players would not cost Liverpool a lot, but would add huge experience.

Since being released by Chelsea, left winger Joe Cole has been linked with a number of clubs. He is still a target of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. Manchester United and Inter Milan backed out from the race, while Manchester City could still reignite their interest to sign the 28-year-old England international.

With Liverpool left back Emiliano Insua being a target of Fiorentina, Hodgson is now looking for his replacement and has identified Maynor Figueroa as Insua’s likely replacement. However, Figueroa has already been a long time target of Sunderland who tried to secure his service last summer.

Maynor Figueroa joined Wigan Athletic on a three and half year deal in December 2008. Since then, he has represented the club in 56 league matches. He is a very strong left-footed player and well-known as a set-piece specialist and for his long throws. It seems Roy Hodgson would not bother about the departure of Insua, if he can accomplish a deal for the £6 million rated player.

Cash-trapped Liverpool is facing a tough task to hold on to their current players. Key players like Torres and Gerrard are all set to leave the Merseyside club, believing that the All Reds can not make series bid for the Premier League title next season and even a Champions League spot also seems to be a distant possibility.
