Reports out in the media suggest that Premier League club Liverpool is currently eyeing on Japanese midfielder Yasuhito Endo who currently plays for J League club Gamba Osaka. The defensive midfielder could replace Javier Mascherano who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona. Inter Milan is another suitor of the Argentina captain.
The 30-year-old Japan international has no previous experience of playing for any non-Japanese club. Endo has been representing Japan in international football since 2002 and has scored 9 goals in 98 appearances so far. He was part of Japan’s 2010 World Cup squad that reached the round of 16 of the tournament.
It is a no more a secret that Liverpool is facing a tough situation on financial ground and their transfer budget is not big enough to go for big players. So, it is pretty much understandable that Liverpool is now trying to strengthen their squad bringing in low-profile but experienced players like Yasuhito Endo.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is now facing a tough challenge in his new job. The Merseyside last season finished 7th in the league. Next season, keeping themselves in the top half of the table could be hard for the All Reds should the players like Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Mascherano leave the club in the summer transfer window.
