Spain vs Netherlands Final: Fernando Torres Wants to be in the Starting Line up

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is now in a dilemma as he is yet to decide whom between Fernando Torres and Pedro would start against Netherlands in the final of FIFA World Cup 2010. Torres has reportedly talked to the coach and urged him to keep him in the starting line up.

Fernando Torres, who scored the winning goal against Germany in the final of Euro 2008, has been struggling for form and is yet to score in the tournament. As a result, Torres was dropped from the starting line up against Germany in the semi final.

What is more important is that his replacement Pedro played very well before being substituted towards the end of the game. However, Pedro was fully criticized for acting selfishly when he attempted to score himself only to lose the possession, instead of passing the ball to Torres who was in a one to one position with the German keeper.

It is true that Fernando Torres is a proven performer, but he is yet to get his rhythm back after returning from injury. During the second half of the last season, Torres underwent a surgery and returned to action just prior to the World Cup. He also missed a lot of action for Liverpool last season.

Vicente del Bosque has not indicated anything regarding his starting line up in the tournament final. Striker David Villa has been in excellent form scoring 5 goals in 6 matches and is one of the contenders to win the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards. So, Spain would expect another impressive performance from Villa in the final.
