Time and Venue of Pakistan vs Australia First T20 2010

Pakistan faces Australia in the first of the two-match twenty20 series on 5 July at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Australia may have lost the ODI series to England 3-2, but restored some part of their confidence winning the last two matches. Pakistan is also expected to be determined to come out of their recent poor shows.

Time

The match starts at 16:00 GMT and 17:00 local time. In Australia, the match begins in Sydney time at 02:00 AM (6 July) and in Adelaide time at 01:30 AM (6 July). As per Pakistan time, the match kicks off at 21:00. Cricket fans in India can watch the match on TV from 21:30.

Venue

The match will take place at the County Cricket Ground, Edgbaston in Birmingham. The ground was established in 1882 and has a capacity of 21,000 fans. This is the home ground of Warwickshire county team. One of the most attractive cricket stadiums in England, this venue bears the memory of at least two memorable events of world cricket.

First, it experienced West Indies great Brian Lara’s record breaking innings of 501 not out in 1994. Five years later, Australia and South Africa presented a memorable tie match in the semi final of 1999 World Cup.

Australia’s performance in the recent ODI series was not overly satisfactory, but one thing is for sure that they made an excellent come back in the series. In the absence of a number of front line pacers, they struggled in the first three matches, but the Australian pacers got their rhythm back in the last two matches.

Pakistan’s recent form is not satisfactory at all. They failed to reach the final of the recently concluded Asia Cup 2010. Before that, Pakistan failed to reach the final of the Twenty20 World Cup 2010 and thus failed to defend the title. So, Pakistani players would like to come back to winning ways by winning the series.

Overall, it seems to be a highly entertaining match with both teams looking to have a good start in the series. While twenty20 is considered as a format dominated by the batsmen, Australian pacers and Pakistani spinners could make a difference in the match.
