Who will Win World Cup 2010 Title?

Only 4 matches are left in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2010. Germany, Spain, Netherlands and Uruguay are now vying for the title. Spain and Netherlands never won it before, and none of the four teams could win the title after the turn of the new century.

Spain

Spain is a pre-tournament favorite. Now, they have reached the semi final for the first time in 60 years and their fans are eagerly waiting to see their first ever success in World Cup football.

Spain is perhaps one of the most underachieved teams in world football. This time players like Xavi, David Villa and others would become the world champion for the first time.

However, Spain could not yet show the kind of dominance they displayed in their Euro 2008 triumph. Overall, Spain must improve on their abject recent form, if they want to lift the trophy on 11 July.

Germany

Germany is one the most consistent teams in World Cup over the last 2 decades. Out of 6 World Cup tournaments from 1986 to 2006, Germany reached the semi final 4 times, winning it once, becoming runner up twice and clinching the third place once.

Germany has continued their excellent form in the current tournament too. They clinched some big margin victories including 4-0 win over Australia, 4-1 win over England and 4-0 victory over hot favorite Argentina thanks to some excellent performances from Klose, Ozil, Müller and Podolski.

However, German defense is not that much impressive. In fact, their back four critically exposed against Serbia and England. Just one fault by their back four could destroy their title hope.

Netherlands

Following their inspirational victory over Brazil, Netherlands would be full of confident to knock out the Uruguayans. Players like Robben, Sneijder are progressively getting their rhythm back. They have a prolific scorer in Robin van Persie and two quality defensive midfielders.

The most important thing is that Netherlands has been gradually improving after each and every game. They might have failed to win World Cup title in 1974 and 1978, despite reaching the final, but this time they could accomplish what they never could.

Uruguay

They are going to play in the semi final for the first time in 40 years. If this is not enough to draw inspiration, they have two World Cup titles. They are now the only South America and non-European team active in the tournament.

Uruguay’s attacking line up would miss Luis Suarez for his one match suspension. Still, they have some quality players like Forlan. There are many who believe that Uruguay could come this far only because they got South Korea and Ghana as their opponents. Now, it is time for the Uruguayans to prove that they really deserve what they have achieved.

It is really very tough to pick up one single team as favorite. On pen and paper, Germany and Spain seem to be favorites, most specifically Germany. However, one can not just write off ever-improving Netherlands.
