Peepli [Live] of Aamir Khan is doing well both in India and abroad

Aamir Khan Productions’ latest movie, Peepli [Live], is doing well both in India and abroad.

The movie was released in more than 700 screens with 600 in the domestic market and 100 in abroad except Britain.

In the opening weekend, the movie collected Rs210 million in India. In the U.S. it opened at No.23 position with a collection of $3,50,054 at the opening weekend on 64 screen with average collection of $5470 per screen.

In Australia, the movie debuted at No.17 with a collection of Aus.$47,935 on seven screen in its opening weekend with an average collection Aus.$6,848 per screens.

The low-budget movie, with a production of Rs.100 million, is a dark comedy directed by debutante director, Anusha Rizvi, revolves around farmer suicide in India. Prior to its release, the movie recovered its investment through the sales of its satellite rights and music rights.

The movie stars tribals from Bhadwai village in Madhya Pradesh and members of Naya Theatre, run by famous playwright, Habib Tanvir. Omkar Das Manikpuri played Natha and Raghuveer Yadav played Budhia. Other actors of the movie are Malaika Shenoy, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa, Farrukh Jaffer, Vishal O. Sharma, Aamir Bashir, Sitaram Panchal and Yugal Kishore. The only known actors in the black comedy have been Naseeruddin Shah and Raguveer Yadav.

Interestingly, in the opening weekend Peepli [Live] collected Rs.15.50 crores the same as the opening weekend collection of AISHA which stars Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol.
