Tea vs Coffee: Which helps to Lower Cholesterol?

I must admit that when it comes to tea vs coffee, I am biased towards tea because it is one of major cash crops for my country Bangladesh. Anyway, right now, I am suffering from high level of cholesterol in my blood and I am eager to know which can help me?
Almost a month ago, I went to the doctor as I felt discomfort in my chest and I thought that may be, I have developed bad heart disease. The doctor asked me to go through a number of tests and he told me in the end that my heart was in good shape but I had high of level of cholesterol in my blood. I need to decrease my weight, stop eating beef or mutton and many other things.
For the last one month, I am constantly searching for the food items that help to lower cholesterol. Normally, I do not like to drink tea or coffee but because of my sleeping disorders, I have to take something. It is 11 months, that I do not drink coffee as it is too much tough for me.
So, my search has brought me the result that tea is good to fight against cholesterol problem. However, there is a catch in it for me. You see that I am fond of black tea with milk and sugar. After reading some information in Internet, I have reached to the conclusion that it wont help me to decrease cholesterol and in fact, sweet tea perhaps do the opposite thing. So, I have to drink green tea without sugar and milk.
"Research shows that green tea lowers total cholesterol and raises HDL ("good") cholesterol in both animals and people. One population-based clinical study found that men who drink green tea are more likely to have lower total cholesterol than those who do not drink green tea. Results from one animal study suggest that polyphenols in green tea may block the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and promote its excretion from the body. In another small study of male smokers, researchers found that green tea significantly reduced blood levels of harmful LDL cholesterol."

So, from tomorrow, I am going to start drinking green tea. Now, what about coffee? I guess that coffee is not that good for decreasing cholesterol.
Read it from MSNBC: Coffee and cholesterol
Fortunately, I have stopped drinking coffee for nearly 11 months. There is another report: How Coffee Raises Cholesterol
Of course, I am not an expert on the field or a doctor or a scientist. I am just sharing some information from Internet that searched for myself. If you are suffering from high cholesterol then never depend on online search. Please, I go to a doctor. I did one month ago. The doctor told me to eat the foods that have low or no cholesterol.

  1. Coffee is a stimulant that affects the adrenals, which in consequence use up more vital vitamin C.
However, a report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition seems to contradict numerous studies that have suggested that coffee is bad for you.
Based on a study of 27,000 older women followed for 15 years, it found risk of cardiovascular disease reduced by about 30 per cent in women who had a moderate intake of coffee. The analysis, part of the Iowa Women’s Health Study, found that up to 60 per cent of antioxidants in the diet may come from coffee.
Active parts of coffee include caffeine and polyphenols. Polyphenols are also found in red wine which, as previously discussed, has been linked to a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease.
My view at this stage is that if you already drink coffee, then moderate consumption may be beneficial provided adequate amounts of vitamin C are consumed. If you do not drink coffee you do not need to start in order to gain antioxidant protection. Just drink quality Green Tea like me.
