Founded on March 12, 1906, in the Temple Town of Udupi, Karnataka state, Corporation Bank is the oldest banking institution in the then undivided “Dakshina Kannda” and one of the oldest banks in India. The bank was founded with an initial capital of Rs.5000. Lack of a banking institution in the area led to the creation of this bank. A small group of philanthropists led by Khan Bahadur Haji Abdulla Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur created the bank.

In 1980, the bank was nationalized. At present, the government of India holds 57.17% of share capital in the bank. In 1997, Corporation Bank became the second public bank in India to enter capital market. Its IPOs were “over-subscribed by 13 times.” Corporation Bank was the first bank to start various services in India such as Cash Management Services, Gold Banking, m-Commerce, Educational loans etc. As on March 31, 2004, the bank employs 12,724 full-time employees and operates from several branches in India. As on March 31, 2005, the bank’s net worth stood at Rs.30.54 billion.
