Portugal Star Nani to Miss World Cup Football 2010 with Shoulder Injury

Portugal winger Nani has become the latest star to miss the World Cup 2010 finals in South Africa after suffering a shoulder injury in training on Friday. The Manchester United midfielder would now join the growing list of injury casualties ahead of the World Cup.

Portugal was hopeful of the winger’s recovery, but today Portuguese Football Federation has ruled out any chance of Nani’s quick recovery from the injury to take part in the Summer tournament.

Portuguese Football Federation revealed, “After tests we conclude he is unfit to participate in the World Cup.”

Benfica’s Ruben Amorim has been called up as the replacement of Nani. Amorim has not played any match for Portugal senior team meaning he could have his international debut in World Cup.

Nani would perhaps rue himself for trying that acrobatic shot that has brought a premature end to his World Cup 2010 mission. He has had an excellent season with Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Nai were the biggest hopes of Portugal in this year’s World Cup. Missing Nani is a big blow for Portugal and coach Carlos Queiroz would now have to deal with this massive lose.

A number of big stars including Michael Ballack, Michael Essien, John Mikel Obi and Rio Ferdinand have already been ruled out of the World Cup 2010. Players like Didier Drogba and Arjen Robben are doubtful for the finals as they need speedy recovery from their recent injuries to be available for the World Cup.
