Viveka Babajee: Former model found hanging from ceiling fan

Viveka Babajee is the latest victim after Nafisa Joseph, and Kuljeet Randhawa. The 37 year old model and part-time fashion

co-ordinator was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her apartment in Mumbai.

According to police, Viveka Babajee came to Mumbai from Mauritius few years ago, in hope to find success in Bollywood. She was living alone in her Continental Building flat in Bandra (west).

On June 25, 2010, occupants of her neighboring flat rang her doorbell as they suspected a gas leakage. Upon ringing the doorbell few times, they did not get any response. They then alerted the police and fire brigade.

Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police, west region said, “Finally, the neighbours alerted the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan,”

It is believed that Viveka Babajee was suffering from depression after she broke up with her boyfriend.

Police is suspecting that it could be a suicide incident but they did not recover any suicide notes from her residence. They are waiting for the post-mortem report of the dead body.

Viveka Babajee was a successful model in the 90s. She won Miss Mauritius title and then came to Mumbai. She then appeared in several TV commercials. Babajee became an overnight sensation by appearing in the Kamasutra condom advertisement.

Police also took away the laptop, mobile phone and diary of Babajee for further investigation. They also said that her mobile was switched off when the incident took place.

A fashion industry source said, “She had disappeared from the fashion scene for some time and left the country. She returned to India last year and dabbled in fashion choreography and event management,”

Viveka Babajee also tried her luck in movies. She appeared in a few movies between 2000 and 2004 such as Yeh Kaisi Mohabbat Hai. She also worked in South Indian movies.
