Argentina vs Germany: Who Will Win?

With Argentina and Germany facing each other in their quarter final clash on Saturday, football fans are expecting a highly entertaining match. Both Argentina and Germany put on some dominating performance so far in the tournament. Naturally, expectations from both sides are high too.

Argentina and Germany met at the same stage in the previous World Cup tournament in 2006 with Germany winning the affair on penalty shootout. Well, this is not the first time Argentina and Germany are facing in back-to-back World Cup tournaments.

Argentina defeated Germany 3-2 in the final of 1986 World Cup and won their second World Cup title. Four years later, Germany took revenge when they defeated Argentina in the 1990 World Cup final to win their third title. So, it seems this time Argentina would take revenge of their defeat in the previous tournament, though this logic seems to be weird.

On pen and paper, Argentina is clearly favorite after the kind of dominance they displayed so far in the tournament. In the presence of Messi, Tevez and Higuain, Argentina has an attacking force that any defense would like to avoid.

In the midfield, they also have some quality players in Maxi Rodríguez, Mascherano and Veron. However, Argentine defense does not look that good. They conceded the goal against South Korea due to the mishap of their defense.

Argentina may be favorite in terms of their recent form and squad strength, but the South Americans would make a big mistake if they feel any kind of complacency. Germany showed a dominating performance in their 4-0 routing of Australia and 4-1 victory over England, though they often fail to maintain consistency.

Mesut Ozil would be the biggest hopes for the Germans. The attacking midfielder has been in hot-shot form and posses a big threat for Argentina’s not-so-good defense. Moreover, Germany’s attacking line up also features Thomas Müller, Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski who could pull the string for Germany.
