Arsenal to Revive Mark Schwarzer Interest

Signing a goalkeeper in the Summer transfer window has become one of the top priorities for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has been linked with a number of goalkeepers including Fulham’s Australian keeper Mark Schwarzer so far since the end of the last season.

Following some costly blunders by Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski last season, Arsenal manager is now determined to increase his goalkeeping options ahead of the next season. Wenger has already revealed his interest in 37-year-old Mark Schwarzer.

Fulham initially refused to sell the experienced keeper, but following the departure of former manger Roy Hodgson, who recently joined Liverpool as their new boss, Arsenal is now all set to revive their interest in Schwarzer hoping that Fulham would come out from their resolute stance.

Reports out in the media suggest that Arsenal could complete a deal for Mark Schwarzer sooner than later as Fulham has also reportedly started searching for a new goalkeeper and recently revealed their interest in Manchester City’s England international Joe Hart.

Meanwhile, Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. Almunia had a poor last season as he made some horrible mistakes and could not cement a regular place in the starting line up.

Now, the arrival of a new goalkeeper means Almunia would be pushed further down the pecking order. Realizing the fact, Almunia, at 33, is now interested to move away from the North London club, seeking more first team football. Atletico Madrid is also keen to secure the Spaniard’s service.

Mark Schwarzer may not serve Arsenal for a long time, but he could add much-needed experience and quality to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has already signed striker Marouane Chamakh and a central defender Laurent Koscielny in Summer 2010. The manager is still looking for another central defender as well as a goalkeeper, while signing a midfielder also seems to be a possibility.
