Elian Gonzalez: it is Time to Move on for All

Elian Gonzalez is a very famous 16 year’s old boy. It seems that he is known to more people around the world than some of the famous Hollywood’s teen actors and actresses. However, he is famous perhaps for the wrong reasons and he cannot use his stardom to earn money like other famous people.  

The historical battle about his custody 10 years ago is known to everyone and does not need to be repeated here. However, many people are still curious to know about him even after 10 years. Right now, he is the most searched item in USA according to Google Trends USA.

After 10 years, Elian Gonzalez has stated that he had nothing against the relatives who wanted to keep him in USA. On the other hand, he also expressed his happiness to be in Cuba. He is now studying hard and he wants a good and successful future for him. He did not say anything about the political tension between USA and Cuba. He perhaps feels that Cuba is his country and he will try his best for himself and for this country.

On the other hand, the father of Elian Gonzalez is still angry with the relatives in USA over the custody battle. He feels that if the boy was in USA and he was in Cuba and then he would have completely separated from his son almost forever.

Some people may think that after a decade he should not be angry with the relatives. After all the relatives felt that if the boy grew up in USA then he would have a better future.

The views of the relatives in USA who tried to keep him in USA could not be known at the tenth anniversary of the return of Elian Gonzalez to Cuba.

It is time that all of us learn to move on and just let Elian Gonzalez grow up. He is still 16 and he should try for his own life. He suffered enough traumas for the life time of one person. The media should learn to respect his privacy as he really did not select to be famous in the first place.

More than the media, the politicians in both Cuba and in the USA should try to move on.
