On July 2, 2010, Surya Sivakumar’s Telugu dubbed version of Singam titled Yamudu released in theatres and it is getting good response both from the critics and movie goers.
The movie is produced by BIG Pictures and stars Suriya, Anushka, Prakash Raj, Vivek, Manoramma, Vijayakumar, Radha Ravi, Nasser, Sumithra, Yuvarani, and Nizhagal Ravi. The music of the movie is composed by Devi Sri Prasad and directed by Hari.
Though dubbed in a different language, Yamudu is very entertaining. It is a mass movie and director Hari put everything in right proportion to make it a “paisa-vasool” entertainer.
This is the 25th movie in Surya’s acting career. After his hit movie, Kaakha Kaakha in 2003, Surya donned the role of a police officer for the second time in Yamudu aka Singam. Singam became a major hit in Tamil and everyone expecting that the Telugu version would do very well.
Durai Singam never dreamt to become a police officer but he joins police to fulfill his father’s wish. Singam has good reputation in the force as a hard working officer and he can resolve problems by talking patiently with people.
Then one day, Kavya (Anushka) comes to his life. The city girl came to spend her vacation and falls in love with Singam.
Things turn ugly when Singam crosses path with Mayil Vaaganam i(Prakash Raj), a notorious gangster. He sends one of his henchmen for a condition bail to Durai Singam but he opposes it.
Mayil becomes desperate to take revenge and transfers Singam to Chennai. There Vaaganam creates pressure on him and Singam decides to leave his job but then Kavya motivates him.
Mayil is involved in child trafficking and kidnaps Kavya’s sister and Singam saves her. For his bravery, he is promoted to Assistant Commissioner for Anti-kidnapping force and chases Mayil.
Surya gave an excellent performance as Durai Singam. Anushka was fine though she had a small part to play in the movie. The music could have been better.
