India: $35 laptop reviewed at NDTV Channel

In the last few weeks, a lot of have been said about the $35 laptop or Tablet PC in the media in India and abroad. NDTV’s program Gadget Guru Program could achieve a major breakthrough by showing it in details. Indian HRD Minister Kapil Sibal was in the program to discuss about it with Vikram and Rajiv.
Mr. Sibal informed that the price would be really $35 and only one million of these tablets have to be produced to get this price. Indian government would initially provide one million of these to the educational institutions.
The good news for Indian students is that Indian government would provide 50% subsidy. However, if it is not still clear that whether the gadget would available in the retail market. Kapil Sibal clearly stated that in the retail market, the price would be higher as there are other expenses.
Tech giants like Google and Microsoft have already expressed interest this device. One Laptop per Child (OLPC) boss Nicholas Negroponte has asked Indian government to make the laptop open for the students of other countries.
