Andy Murray will face Roger Federer in the Rogers Cup final

Top ranked Scot tennis player, Andy Murray, will take on third ranked player Roger Federer of Switzerland in the final match of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

After defeating the top-seeded Rafael Nadal of Spain 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-final match, Andy Murray has secured his place in the final round. With this victory, he could able to hold his number fourth position. It also helps him to reduce the defeat margin to 4-8 against Nadal, with all four victories coming on hard courts.

No doubt, Andy Murray has shown his best effort to clinch the victory. He did less unforced errors to make into the final round. Now, he needs one more victory to get the trophy.

With the final match victory in the Rogers Cup champion, he is looking to become the first men’s player since Andre Agassi in 1995.

Roger Federer is the most favorite contestant of this game. He is hoping to continue his winning streak against Andy Murray. He has moved through to the final round after defeating Novak Djokovic 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 in the other semifinal.

Since Australian Open 2010, Roger Federer has not won any big trophy. It has given him a chance to get another big trophy as he is eyeing for 20 Grand Slam titles.

Roger Federer: I want to Have 20 Grand Slam titles

Former World No. 1 and currently ranked World No. 3, Roger Federer, is looking for 20 Grand Slam titles before taking retirement from tennis.

With 16 Grand Slam titles beside his name, the twenty-nine-year-old Federer is the most successful Grand Slam winner. This veteran tennis player wants to increase his record with hauling four more Grand Slam titles. He hopes that he can do it in the next couple of years. He says,

"I believe that having won three Grand Slams per season three times, and two per year a couple of times, it's something do-able,"

Roger Federer won his last Grand Slam title at the Australian Open this year. Since then he could not achieve any big title. It raised question about his ability of winning competitive tournaments or matches.

How much realistic is Roger Federer’s vision of 20 Grand Slam? He is now 29-year-old and it is somewhat much old age. Tennis players think of taking retirement at this age. However, it does not mean that there is no exceptional.

Former great tennis player, Andre Agassi, proved that age is not a big factor to get victory in any big tournament. It is interesting to see that he won four of these eight Grand Slam titles after he turned 29.

Pete Sampras, who has bagged 14 Grand Slam titles, won his seventh Wimbledon title just before he turned 29 and won his final U.S. Open two years later.

However, any serious injury could also conclude Roger Federer’s sporting career any time. Now, fans are passionately waiting to see if he can set his goal to win at least 20 Grand Slam titles or it will be hard to find for him.

Roger Federer is still a Favorite for US Open 2010

There is no notable tennis event going on at the moment in which players like Federer or Nadal are taking part. Top male and female players will be busy after a week or two and take part in pre US Open events. Now, perhaps the tennis fans are eagerly waiting whether Federer can make a strong comeback in US Open 2010.
Some of the bookies believe that it is still a wrong idea to write him off. So, if you want to bet on Federer for the US Open 2010 then you might notice that the stakes are still high despite the matter that he suffered early exits from both French Open and Wimbledon this year. In fact, in 2010, Federer has not won anything significant except the Australian Open.
The next event that Federer is participating is Rogers Cup 2010 that takes place in Canada. He is now currently ranked at the third position and winning Rogers Cup may take him to rank number 2 behind Nadal. Then, Federer is scheduled to play at Western & Southern Financial Group Masters (Cincinnati Masters) 2010. He has won this event 3 times in the last 5 years (2009, 2005 and 2007).
Both these pre US Open tournaments are vital for Federer. He needs to be fresh both physically and emotionally. His fans believe that he still can make a strong comeback and be the number one player again.
It is indeed too early to write Roger Federer off. He has demolished almost every record in men’s tennis in the Open Era.

Roger Federer needs to Fight back in US Open Tennis 2010

US Open Tennis 2010 will start on 30 August 2010 and it is a great opportunity for Roger Federer to make a strong comeback and silence his critics. He has a very good opportunity to show that it is really too early to write him off. After all, it is an event that he has enjoyed huge success in the last 6 years.
In the final match of US Open 2009, Federer lost to Juan Martín del Potro by 3–6, 7–6(5), 4–6, 7–6(4), 6–2. It was a very hard fought match and continued for more than 4 hours. Before that, Federer won the event for 5 consecutive years- (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008). So, it is an event that he has proven track record of success.
The recent bad performance at Wimbledon has perhaps made the player very unhappy. It has disappointed his fans a lot too. Federer has been dominating the Tennis World for more than 6 years. Now, his ranking is 3 and he will want to change this as soon as he can.
Rafael Nadal is the number one ranked player at the moment and he will surely want to take advantage from the poor form of Federer. However, it will not be that easy because Nadal’s past record at US Open Tennis is not impressive at all. In fact, he is yet to taste championship at US open. The best he could manage was reaching semifinals in 2008 and 2009.
Thus, if Federer is out of form at the moment, Nadal is also out of any good record at US open. This should give Federer some confidence.
It is really too early to write Federer off and it will not be shocking at all if he can make a strong comeback by winning the title of US Open 2010.

Roger Federer: Finally Age has Started Taking its Toll

Roger Federer is arguably the greatest ever male tennis player. The Swiss tennis maestro holds record 16 Grand Slam singles title. However, over the last couple of years, it seems his age has finally started taking its toll on him physically.

Roger Federer has recently failed to reach the semi finals of French Open 2010 and Wimbledon 2010. Since 2004, it was the first time Federer failed to reach the last four of a Grand Slam tournament and over the last 6 years he played in record 23 consecutive Grand Slam semi finals.

Federer fans may disagree, but record shows the Swiss great has already seen his best on tennis court. Federer won 11 out of his 16 Grand Slam singles titles in between 2004 and 2007. During these 4 years, he dominated in all the Grand Slam tournaments, except French Open.

His fall on tennis court started in 2008 when he failed to win his 6th consecutive Wimbledon title as he lost to Rafael Nadal in an epic final. The same year Federer failed to win the Olympics gold medal in singles and lost the no. 1 rank to Nadal.

Roger Federer retained the no. 1 place in 2009 after reclaiming his Wimbledon title. He also won the French Open title for the first time the same year with physically unfit Nadal failing to reach the quarter final. Despite the two back to back successes, Federer could not yet show the kind of dominance he was once used to.

In US Open 2009, he lost to Juan Martín del Potro. With this defeat, he failed to clinch his 6th consecutive US Open title. Moreover, it was the first time he was defeated in a Grand Slam final by someone other than Nadal.

Federer started the 2010 winning the Australian Open, but agonizingly failed to reach the semi finals of both French Open and Wimbledon, losing to Robin Söderling and Tomáš Berdych respectively.

It seems pretty much odd for a player who holds the record of playing in 10 consecutive Grand Slam singles finals and 23 consecutive Grand Slam singles semi finals. He also holds the record of being the no. 1 in ATP ranking for 237 weeks at a stretch.

Roger Federer is now 28, an age which in tennis is counted as one of the last years of someone’s career. There is no doubt, Federer is a great player, but his age seems to have started taking heavy tool on him. There are now many physically strong players like Soderling, Berdych, Nadal etc. and it is always very tough to deal with those strong players in today’s power-based tennis.

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal in Davis Cup 2010?

Yes, for the first time, you can see a match up between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in Davis Cup 2010 as Switzerland and Spain have been drawn together meaning they would face each other in their tournament opener next year. Federer-Nadal rivalry has already part of tennis folklore as the two have presented some of the most memorable matches of modern tennis. However, the two arch rivals did not face each other in Davis Cup yet and it seems that there is every possibility it could happen next year.

The problem is that Federer does not play in Davis Cup very often, even though the record 15 grand slam singles winner has earned 2 points for his country during Switzerland’s 3-2 win over Italy in the play-off. Nadal, on the other hand, generally does not miss Davis Cup matches, but the injury pronged player very often misses out Davis Cup matches due to injury. For example, Nadal was absent during Spain’s victory over Argentina in last year’s Davis Cup final. Now, let us see if tennis fans can get to watch a match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in 2010 Davis Cup.
