Katrina Kaif gets a surprise gift from Zoya Akhtar on her birthday

Bollywood actress, Katrina Kaif, turned 26 this Friday but the actress could not celebrate her birthday for she was busy shooting Zoya Akhtar’s movie, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Katria Kaif was planning to spend her birthday with her family in London but then she had to postpone her birthday celebration as some of the scenes of the movie had been rescheduled and she went to Spain for shooting on July 15, 2010.

However, Katrina Kaif was not sad about all this. She thought it would be the best way to celebrate her birthday.

Zoya Akhtar was well aware about Katrina Kaif’s birthday and she arranged a big surprise for the actress. Katrina was shooting with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol in the crowded streets of Pamplona in Spain. At that time, the Encierro, or Running Of The Bulls festival, one of the biggest festivals in Spain was going on.

Suddenly, Zoya Akhtar shouted in the Dictaphone and the shooting halted and then Zoya Akhtar announced that it was Katrina Kaif’s birthday and told everyone to sing “Happy Birthday” to Katrina Kaif.

All of a sudden the 500 people at the streets of Pamplona, Indian, Spanish and other nationality sang Happy Birthday to her. Katrina Kaif became very emotional. According to her, it was the best birthday gift she ever had.

Katrina Kaif wants Farah Khan to direct her Etihad Airlines TV commercial

Popular Bollywood actress, Katrina Kaif has been chosen as the brand ambassador of Etihad Airways. The actress is now going to do a TV commercial with choreographer turned director, Farah Khan.

Katrina Kaif worked with Farah Khan in Tees Maar Khan and she was very impressed the way Farah Khan represented her in the movie.

When Katrina Kaif was asked whom she would want to direct the commercial, Katrina Kaif immediately suggested Farah Khan’s name.

Farah Khan also confirmed the news. She said, "Yes I am directing Katrina for the airlines. She's not playing an air hostess but we will be shooting it at their airport lounge in Abu Dhabi. Katrina is flying down for just one day from Spain where she's shooting for Zoya's Zindagi Na Milenge Dobara to shoot for the ad.”

Farah Khan also said that after a long time it would be great to meet with Katrina Kaif once again. Farah would bring the song recording of Tees Maar Khan for Katrina Kaif. She hopes that Katrina Kaif would be very excited to hear the song. It is a great song with some peppy tunes. Farah Khan will work with Katrina Kaif to shoot the song once her shooting schedule in Spain ends.

Katrina Kaif having a tough time for bad weather and neck sprain

Despite delivering the blockbuster of 2010, actress Katrina Kaif, is having a tough time. So what is the problem?

Katrina Kaif is now in Spain shooting Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. Due to bad weather, Zoya Akhtar had to cancel the shooting for six days. What made matters worst, the actress sprained her neck while working out in the gym. She is now having pain while turning her head from left to right. She can now only look straight.

The accident happened on June 21, 2010, during her gym session. Because of the rain, Katrina Kaif had nothing to do for the last six days and gymming was the only leisure activity she was left with. As a result, she was spending more time in the gym.

The good news is London is only two hours away from where Katrina Kaif is shooting. Katrina Kaif’s family is based in London. Her sister, Melissa, is keeping her company.

Due to the rain, Zoya’s unit could not finish the shooting and their visas and work permits would expire soon. The shooting of the movie was supposed to finish within a single two-and-half-month schedule starting from June to August. The bad weather caused a lot of problem

Katrina Kaif’s put the project further in jeopardy for the actress is supposed to do some serious stunts in the movie. She actress took deep sea diving lessons along with Abhay Deol. She has also been taking lessons in riding a dirt bike.

Though he spent most of his time talking to Aamir, he didn’t mind her presence at all.”

When Salman Khan and Aamir Khan posed for a photoshoot, she quietly moved aside.

There will be no Raajneeti sequel Prakash Jha is working in Aarakshan

Director Prakash Jha is now basking under the success of his latest movie Raajneeti. Released on June 4, 2010, the movie is still drawing audience to the theatres.

Because of the immense success of the movie, rumor spread out that the director might be making a sequel of the movie titled Raajneeti 2 but Jha denied the claim outright. He said, “I’m not even thinking of a sequel.”

The director is now working on his next project titled Aarakshan which means “Reservation of Opportunities.”

Ajay Devgan, Manoj Bajpai and Amitabh Bachchan are going to act in the movie. Ajay Devgan, who is the favorite actor of Prakash Jha, will do the lead role in the movie. Earlier, Devgan-Jha duo, gave us great movies like Gangaajal (2003) and Apaharan (2005).

Manoj Bajpai envy’s the rapport between Ajay Devgan and Prakash Jha. He jokingly said, “And there’s little I can do about this, except stand at a distance and feel envious about the chemistry they share.”

Manoj Bajpail played the antagonist, an evil politician, named Veerendra Pratap in Raajneeti. His performance had been widely appreciated both by the critics and audience. Aaraskhan will be his comeback movie.

Bollywood’s top actress, Katrina Kaif, is having a busy schedule and she is missing the rain of Mumbai.

After Spain, Katrina Kaif will go to London to work with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in Dostana 2.

Aside from working in movies, Katrina Kaif is also planning to start her own business firm. She said, “I definitely want to start the film marketing division at the earliest. I’m basically seeking the guidance of my friends and colleagues about this and how to go about it. Film marketing has always intrigued me as it’s both exciting and challenging to see how a strategy to sell the product in the market and even to the audiences is made.”

So why movie marketing? Katrina Kaif said that her decision came from her love for numbers. Katrina Kaif says that she has a very sharp memory and remembers collection data of movies by heart. This helps her to know which films are really doing well at the box office. She believes that she can bring “highly professional attitude” looking forward to hire experienced people who would help her.

She further said that film marketing is very important these days because every week, more than one movie is hitting the theatres and there is also Hollywood movies. In this highly competitive film industry, where collection on opening weekend makes lots of difference, film marketing plays a very important role. It helps to make a film stand out from others.

Katrina Kaif and Raajneeti rock the box office

Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti hit the jackpot at the box office. The multi-starrer political thriller had a great opening weekend in the theatres both in India and overseas. The movie was released in fewer screens compared to Housefull and Kites.

Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori starrer Kites was released in more than 200 theatres while Raajneeti was on 124 theatres.

The movie set a record of second biggest opening after 3 Idiots which released last year. However, a major contributor behind 3 Idiots’ success was that the movie was released during Christmas and Monday was a holiday.

Rediff.com reported that Raajneeti collected Rs.105 million on the first day and somewhere between Rs.330-350 million in the opening weekend. The production cost of the movie was Rs.550 million. The movie will have a great collection during its theatrical run as there are no other major movie releases next weekend. This means the movie will have fourteen days of theatrical run.

Raajneeti also received good response in other urban centers and in North America with occupancies higher than 80%.

Normally, Hindi movies based on politics do not do very well in the U.S. but Raajneeti changed all that. According to distributor UTV, The movie had a great opening weekend in the U.S collecting $9,17,000 in three days. The movie also had the “highest per screen average”-$7395. However, distributor is afraid that the movie would not add significant number of audience in the US.

Raajneeti took the number 11 spot on the box office charts. Shrek Forever After was at the top place collecting more than $25 million.

Kites opened at number 10 position in the US box office three weeks ago and collected about $2 million in the U.S. UTV hopes that Raajneeti would do better than Kites in the upcoming weeks.

Raajneeti is Prakash Jha’s first successful movie in North America. His last movie, Apaharan, was released in 2005. Throughout his career, the director earned name and fame for making serious political movies such as Damul (1984)

Parinati (1988), Mrityudand (1997), Gangaajal (2003).

Raajneeti also stars Katrina Kaif, the top actress of Bollywood. In the movie, she plays the role of a female politician. Her involvement in the movie led many people to believe that Prakash Jha is going to make a movie on the Gandhi-Nehru family. Repeatedly, Prakash Jha denied that claim. He said that the story of the movie is based on a part of Mahabharata, the great epic. Few American movie critics also opined that the movie has some resemblances with Francis Ford Coppola’s movie, Godfather.

Rajneeti Hindi movie review

From the beginning, Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti has been generating controversies. Many believed that the movie was based on the Gandhi family of India. A social worker named Naseem Khan requested the Bombay Civil court to stay the release of the movie. The court said that it would wait for the report of the Censor board. The Censor board cleared the movie.

A script writer, named Yogendra Konkar, claimed that the script of Rajneeti is based on his own script with a similar title, “Rajniti: A Political Saga.” However, the high court even cleared Rajneeti of the accusation.

According to Jha’s lawyer, Jha’s script was registered with Indian Motion Pictures Association in December 2008 while Konkar’s script was registered in July 2009.

Then rumor of fight between Jha and Nana Patekar fought in the sets. Then there was the Censor Board controversy. To get U/A certificate Prakash Jha had to cut off some violent scenes and reference to homosexuality and a significant portion of the lovemaking scene between Katrina Kaif and Arjun Rampal. Finally, there was the anonymous warning letter from a Congress party worker.

The waiting is over and Rajneeti has been finally released in theatres. So how is the movie? It is a gripping political thriller and no it has no reference to any politician and definitely not Sonia Gandhi which had been widely speculated before.

Rajneeti mainly takes its story from Mahabharata, the great Indian Epic. Add with it a little sprinkle from Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather. Rajneeti is about the struggle between two cousins- Prithviraj Pratap (Arjun Rampal) and Veerendra Pratap (Manoj Bajpai). Veerendra believes that it is his birth right to become the leader of the party and he would get it at any cost. To achieve his goal, he teams up with Sooraj Kumar (Ajay Devgan), a powerful Dalit leader .

Samar Pratap (Ranbir Kapoor) never thought of becoming a politician. He went abroad for higher education and dreamed of becoming a lecturer but fate had different plans for him. He ended up into politics and becomes one of the top players. With Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar) on his side, Samar learns the inner workings of politics and becomes a master strategist.

Arjun’s character is related to Bhim while Samar’s is Arjun, Veerendra is Duryodhona and Brij Gopal is Lord Krishna. Like Michael Corleone, Samar takes over his father’s empire and becomes the top guy.

The great thing about Rajneeti is that it has a tight script. In the first half, you get acquainted with the characters and the inner workings of the system. By the second half, you get a clear understanding who is what. There are no song and dance sequences. From the start, the director takes a non-nonsense approach. There are multiple layers of stories and one unfolds after the quickly.

On the bad side, it is a long three hour movie which means you might end up having a headache. Plus, the movie demands serious attention.

Prakash Jha did a very good job with the movie. Over the years, he made some great political movies. Rajneeti is just another feather to his crown of success.

Raajneeti director Prakash Jha is not worried about Congress party leaders

It looks like, controversies surrounding Prakash Jha’s upcoming movie, Raajneeti, will not die down so soon.

Recently, the director received a letter from a Congress party worker. In the long letter, the worker warned him not to derogate the “Gandhi family.” The party worker did not mention his name.

However, Prakash Jha is not worried about it at all. To him, it is just another “over-zealous” party worker who is desperate to get noticed. He said, “Why give such people importance? Please don’t mention his name. I simply don’t react. When I got the letter from the party worker, who shall go unnamed, I read it and tore it up. And, I called up the gentleman and said, 'If you think I’m going to respond in writing to your letter so that you can get mileage and publicity out of it then you’re mistaken. I want to thank you for your concern. But I’ve nothing to say to you….”

Jha decided not to respond to any political workers. He said that if the Congress party heads have any problem with the movie, they should come and see it.

This is not the first time, the director faced such allegations. Earlier, a social worker named Naseem Khan filed a case against Raajneeti in the Mumbai civil court. Mr, Khan requested the court to stay the release of the movie as it would derogate the image of Congress Party President, Sonia Gandhi. The court said that it would give his verdict after the report of the censor board.

The good news is the Censor Board cleared Raajneeti. It declared that the characters in the movie have no resemblances with any politician.

However, the Censor Board, at first, was not ready to give the movie a U/A certificate. The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal gave the movie a U/A certificate after the directed deleted some sequences. The movie had some violent scenes and reference to homosexuality. In addition, there was this love-making scene between Katrina Kaif and Arjun Rampal and almost half of the scenes had been cut off.

Katrina Kaif Believes Her Character in Raajneeti is more glamorous

Katrina Kaif is now busy promoting her upcoming movie, Raajneeti. A political thriller, Raajneeti, has some of finest actors in Bollywood including Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai, Naseeruddin Shah, Ajay Devgan,Nana Patekar and finally Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. This is Katrina Kaif’s second outing with Ranbir Kapoor.

From the very beginning it has been speculated that Raajneeti is actually based on Sonia Gandhi’s life. Even Prakash Jha, director of the movie, in some of his earlier interviews said that, Raajneeti was based on India’s “first family of politicians,” which he now refrains from saying.

Katrina Kaif blames herself for all the confusion. She said that since she is a foreigner, many thought that the movie is based on Sonia Gandhi but that was not the case.

In Raajneeti, Katrina Kaif plays the role of a female politician which is very serious and non-glamorous but Katrina disagrees. She says that it is a misconception. She believes that woman’s glamour comes from the strength of her character, the fire in her and the ability to do something rare not by wearing a mini skirt. She says that the role of a domesticated woman is non-glamorous than the one she played in Raajneeti.

In Raajneeti, Katrina Kaif played Indu Pratap. She is the spoilt daughter of a political financer. Indu is very strong and does what she likes. Katrina said, “Indu is very outgoing, fiery, brash and wants everything in life. She is quite shameless in love, meaning, without any caution she goes to the person she loves and pushes him to love her back. When it doesn't get reciprocated she feels jolted and realises she can't get everything she wants, that way my character is pretty glamorous. The so-called unglamorous part comes only in the later half of the film when I am pushed to live a politician's life out of business compulsions.”

The biggest challenge Katrina Kaif faced while playing the character is her poor knowledge of politics and Hindi accent.

Prakash Jha has very good knowledge about Bihar politics and Katrina Kaif watched lots of videos of famous female politicians to prepare for her character. She even met some politicians including Sheila Dikshit and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

She also had work hard on her Hindi accent.

Raajneeti is releasing in theatres next Friday. Let’s wait and see, how people accept Katrina Kaif in her new avatar.

Katrina Kaif is the most searched Bollywood Actress in Mobile Phones in India

Another feather to Katrina Kaif’s crown of success. The gorgeous looking Bollywood actress came up as the most searched Bollywood celebrity on the mobile phones beating top actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai.

The other most searched celebrities on the mobile phones are- Angelina Jolie, Kareena, Shah Rukh, Salman, Bipasha, Aishwarya, Monica Bellucci and Aamir Khan.

Raghavendra Agarwala, CEO of mBit Infotech, said, "It is amazing to see that Katrina Kaif is ruling the charts with a major pie, presumably implying that Katrina’s popularity is mounting for both national and international audiences."

In 2008 and 2009, Katrina Kaif came up as the most searched Bollywood celebrity on Internet.

The report was published by mBit Infotech, a New Delhi-based Value Added Service (VAS) company. It conducted research on more than 1,20,000 of its subscribers in the first quarter of 2010.

The study revealed that sex and sex related topics are the most popular search topic on mobile phones. Out of 6,730 keywords, sex and sex related topics such as porn, porno, naked account for 30% of the total searches.

Music is the second most popular topic accounting for 19 per cent of total searches on the mobile web. International hip hop star, Akon, is the most seached and downloaded from the mobile web. Other popular searches include Linkin Park, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Rihanna and Michael Jackson top the list.

Cricket, movies and videos are the third most searched topics accounting for 15% of the total searches.

Katrina Kaif starrer Raajneeti faced lawsuit over defaming Sonia Gandhi

Katrina Kaif’s Rajneeti had been sued by a social worker on the ground of defaming, Congress party President, Sonia Gandhi. The movie is scheduled to release on June 4, 2010.

In Raajneeti, Katrina Kaif played the role of a female politician. Her sari clad picture sparked rumor that she is actually playing the character of Sonia Gandhi. This prompted Naseem Khan, a social worker, to file a case against Raajneeti at the Mumbai Civil court. Naseem Khan urged the court to ban the film on the ground that Katrina kaif’s character is based on Sonia Gandhi’s life and director Prakash Jha should not degrade Sonia Gandhi’s image by showing intimate scenes between Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.

However, Prakash Jha said that Katrina Kaif’s character has no resemblance with Sonia Gandhi. In fact, all the characters in the movie have no resemblance with any person living or dead.

Katrina Kaif admitted of watching the videos of Sonia Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to portray the character of a politician but she also said that her character has no resemblance with Sonia Gandhi. Katrina Kaif even went on to meet some female politicians like Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, Delhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. She spoke highly of Sonia Gandhi and expressed her wish to meet with Sonia Gandhi in person.

Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye is a very boring romantic movie. Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif play the lead role. Aditya (Akshay Kumar) works in a car company and Jia (Katrina Kaif) is the daughter of rich businessman. Both of them are about to get married to two different people but fate had different plan for them. They meet each other in Canada and eventually gets close. Due to a misunderstanding, the go separate ways but on the day of Jia’s wedding, they come together once again and Jia’s would be husband (played by Anil Kapoor) comes to know about her feelings for Aditya. The movie ends when the two unites. Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye did not do very well at the box office. First of all, Katrina Kaif’s portrayal of Jia was not very strong. More over, the story was not so interesting. The climax of the movie could have been better.

To stop Jazz from getting married to Charlie Brown, her father convinces her to come to India where he fixes her marriage to his friend’s son, Arjun Singh. The movie then shows, how Arjun wins Jasmeet’s heart. A beautiful romantic movie, Namastey London collected Rs. Rs. 7,35,75,657 in the first week of its release in Mumbai. The movie collected Rs. 48,37,00,000 in India and went on to become one of the highest grossing movies of 2007.

Inspired from Will Smith’s hit romantic comedy, Hitch, Partner stars Katrina Kaif and her boyfriend Salman Khan. In the movie, Salman Khan played the role of Prem, a Love Guru, who helps people facing problems in their love relationships. Eventually, Prem meets Bhaskar Diwakar Chaudhary, who is madly in love with Priya Jaisingh but can not express his feeling as she is the head of the company where Bhaskar works. Bhaskar then seeks Prem’s help. Initially, Prem does not agree to help him but then Bhaskar persuades him to do so. With her stupid acts Bhaskar eventually wins Priya’s heart. Prem meets a photo journalist named Naina and the two eventually gets close. In this movie, Katrina Kaif played a supporting character. Partner did very well at the box office but all the credit went to Govinda and Salman Khan for their great sense of comedy. The movie saw a good turnover in small theatres all over India. It did very well in Rajasthan and broke several records. In 2007, Partner was the first blockbuster of Bollywood earning a revenue of Rs.11.81 crores in India and $1.1 million in the U.S and £1.837 million in the U.K.

Balram vs Taradas is a Malayalam film released in April, 2006. South Indian movie star, Mammootty played dual role in the movie. Katrina Kaif played the female lead in the movie. The film was also dubbed in Telugu as "Monica and the Don" and in Hindi as "Basha:The Boss." A large amount of arms and ammunitions have been discovered in the land belonging to a local businessman named Hussein Sahib (Risabava). Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya is a romantic comedy. Samir Malhotra is a successful doctor and is very charming and beautiful. Many of her female patients fall for him but whenever they want to get married to him, he tells them he is already married. Then one day, Samir falls in love with a beautiful girl named Sonia. When Sonia comes to know that Samir is married, she wants to meet his wife. Seeing no other option, Samir convinces her secretary, Naina, to pretend to be his wife. The web of lie becomes thicker, Naina eventually falls in love with Samir. However, Samir does not understand her feelings and hurts her. Naina then leaves for Canada. Eventually, Samir understands his mistake and then goes after Naina and stops her as she was about to board the plane. Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya was one of the successful movies of 2005 and the songs of the movie also became very popular. Unfortunately, Katrina Kaif had a supporting character in the movie.

A comedy movie, Singh Is Kinng, was extensively shot in Australia, around the Gold Cosast region and Brisbane. For his performance, Akshay Kumar was nominated in the Best Actor category at the 3^rd Asian Film Awards. In the spelling of “King,” an extra “n” had been added as per suggestion of numerologist. Singh Is Kinng is a comedy movie which tells the story of Happy Singh, who always tries to help people but end up doing more damage. To get rid of him, his village folks send him to find out to find Lucky Singh who resides in Australia and became an underworld don. At the airport, Happy Singh’s ticket gets exchanged with another passenger named Puneet, who was planning to go to Egypt. In Egypt, Happy comes across Sonia and falls in love with her but he does not express his feelings for her. He then goes to Australia to get Lucky but in a weird twist of fate, he eventually becomes an underworld don. Singh Is Kinng had a record opening in India. It opened to 95-100% occupancy collecting Rs.29 crores on the first day and Rs.43 crores in the first week in India.

The story of Yuvraaj is inspired from a 1988 Hollywood comedy-drama, Rain Man. Yuvraaj Singh is a struggling musician and is in love with Anushka Banton. Anushka is a beautiful girl with high values. Anushka’s father gives Yuvraaj forty days within which he would have to acquire the wealth of his billionaire father. Yuvraaj then gets prepared to fight with his two other brothers Gyanesh and Danny. Gyanesh is autistic and he has no interest in money. It is love that only matters to him. On the other hand, Yuvraaj is exploitive and clever. He is ready to go any distance to get his father's wealth. Danny is a spoiled brat who only loves to spend money. As Yuvraaj tries to get the property, he gradually understands his mistakes tries to become a better man. Yuvraaj did poorly in the U.K. It collected only Rs. 1crore. In the U.S the movie grossed Rs.32 crore.

Malliswari is a Telugu movie and it had been dubbed into Malayalam as Malliswari: The Princess. Venkatesh and Katrina Kaif played lead roles in this movie. The story of the movie has some resemblance with that of Roman Holiday. The movie was an instant hit. Malliswari (Katrina Kaif) is the sole heiress of the Raja of Mirjapur. In his will, her father wrote that Malliswari will inherit her property worth Rs.750 crores after she reaches the age of 21. Her property is taken care by Bhavani Shankara who wants to kill her and take over all her properties. To fulfill his evil intentions, Bhavani sends Malliswari to Vizag to a relative’s place where she would live as a normal girl hiding her real identity. New York is a thriller movie which shows Katrina Kaif in a different role. The movie tries to show the suffering of Muslims post 9/11 terrorist attack. The story starts in 1999 and ends in 2008. Maya, Sameer, and Omar are three friends who study at New York State University. Omar fell in love with Maya but distances himself when he comes to know that Maya is in love with Sameer. Seven years have passed and then oneday Omar was arrested by FBI for a gun was found in his taxi. Later, Omar comes to know that he was set up by the FBI to spy on Samir, who FBI believes is involved in the act of terrorism. Immediately, after 9/11, Samir was arrested and detained by FBI on false charges. They detained him for nine months. This affected Samir deeply and gradually, he involves in the act of terrorism. In the climax as Samir was about explode a bomb in the FBI head quarter, Omar and Maya stops him. However, Maya and Samir was killed by the FBI. New York collected Rs.350 million during its first three days in India and ranked number one in th box office in India in the first week. Worldwide, New York collected Rs.61.89 crore. Not only it became a superhit but also garnered critical appreciation.

Welcome is a comedy movie and the fifth movie Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif together. The movie is inspired from Hollywood movie, Mickey Blue Eyes. Sanjana is a beautiful girl but nobody wants to marry her for both her brothers are underworld dons. Then there is Rajiv who comes across Sanjana and the two falls in love. When Rajiv’s maternal uncle, Dr.Ghungroo, discovers that Sanjana’s family is involved in underworld, he tries to stop the marriage. The movie then shows how Sanjana and Rajiv helps Sanjana’s brothers to leave the path of evil. Welcome became one of the highest grossing movies of 2008 collecting Rs.353 crores in its first week. It broke Dhoom 2’s opening collection. Within two weeks, Welcome collected Rs.76 crores despite facing competition from Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par.

Katrina Kaif’s character in Raajneeti is not based on Sonia Gandhi

Once again Katrina Kaif is the center of media attention as her upcoming movie, Raajneeti, is slated to release in June. Recently, One India did an interview with the actress where she talked about Raajneeti and her career and future projects. While talking about Raajneeti, Katrina Kaif said:

Raajneeti has a popular subject. It is about the politics of life. It is a paradox which is also happening in your own family. It is something which happens between two lovers or for that matter a husband and a wife. It is a film on relationships. What I like about Raajneeti is that it is a film which is full of complexities in character. The film is about insecurities suffered by the character played by Ajay Devgan.

It is believed that Katrina Kaif’s character, Indu Pratap, is inspired from Sonia Gandhi’s character, as she played the character of a widow but Katrina said:

Let me reiterate that I am not playing the character which is based on Sonia Gandhi in Raajneeti. So what if I play a widow? My character of ‘Indu’ in Raajneeti is based on the character of Draupadi from Mahabharat. Indu is not only a strong and independent but also has modern values. Besides the fact that the film is helmed by a director like Jha, one more reason that made me agree to do the film is that you do not encounter roles other than typical ones in commercial films. Also I was glad that I was not required to look ugly or wear a pair of spectacles in Raajneeti, though I play a widowed character.

Initially, Katrina Kaif was apprehensive about the role for it would not go with her image. Very often people ask her why she does not do serious roles. Prior to signing New York, which was also a serious movie, Katrina Kaif appeared in Raajneeti. She wanted to try something new because Katrina felt that she had been prejudiced.

Katrina Kaif is desperate to get rid of her glamour girl image in Bollywood. The actress worked very hard for her upcoming movie, Raajneeti, a political thriller. Katrina could not attend her grandmother’s party in London as flights were cancelled due to volcanic ash. She then called Prakash Jha and redub her lines for the movie. She minutely watched various video recordings of renowned political leaders such as Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dixit; Congress leader, Ambika Soni; Priyanka Gandhi and Indira Gandhi to learn their mannerisms.

In Raajneeti, Katrina Kaif played the character of a female politician, Indu Pratap Singh. Now, the actress wants to meet Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, Congress leader Ambika Soni to see whether she truly portrayed their mannerisms in the movie. Katrina Kaif was also interested to meet Sonia Gandhi, chairman of the ruling UPA. Unfortunately, Sonia Gandhi could not make time to see her. Katrina Kaif’s only regret is that she could not meet Indira Gandhi, who always inspired her most apart from her mother.

Director Prakash Jha is also interested to arrange these meetings so that the government has a positive view about this movie. He hopes that if these ladies see Raajneeti, then they would recommend the film for exemption from entertainment taxes.
